Chambered in 357 Mag the Smith Wesson 586 is a medium sized double-action revolver built on an L-frame. It was originally produced in 1981 and is now part of the company's Classic line. Available with a 6" barrel. 586 is similar to the Model 686 with the primary difference being that the 686 is constructed of stainless steel and the 586 is made from carbon steel with a blued or nickel finish. The Model 586 was mainly marketed as a duty weapon for law enforcement.
