"Trade name" or "hardware gun".....These guns were very inexpensive, utility grade shotguns made for the average man - someone who just needed a halfway decent shotgun for a very fair price. Now, "Volunteer" was a trade name used on shotguns sold by the Belknap Hardware Company.

It has been repaired. Not all original. In very nice condition. Could be a decorative item. Would not recommend using as a reliable weapon. The gun was designed and made using the technology and metallurgy of the times when it was made and for the ammunition in use back then. Before attempting to shoot it, have it checked out by a competent gunsmith.
