This Kimber Custom II LAPD SWAT is a full-size .45 ACP 1911 with the "LAPD SWAT CUSTOM II" slide roll mark and Kimber Yonkers frame marking. It features a match-grade barrel and trigger components, checkered front strap with a flat mainspring housing, and a beveled magazine well. The KLA114-serial prefix aligns with the range associated with LAPD SWAT pistols. I was an LAPD Officer for several years in the 1990's and purchased this pistol from a fellow officer. This was not my personal duty weapon, but it did belong to one of my friends. A photo of a much younger me is shown. This was an actual issued duty gun, NOT a production over-run.

Built on the 1911 platform, it uses a 5-inch Government-length match-grade barrel and an internal extractor. The slide includes front and rear cocking serrations and a lowered, flared ejection port for reliable manipulation and ejection.

The Series II Swartz-type firing pin block is actuated by the grip safety, complementing a manual thumb safety and a grip safety with memory pad. The hammer is a skeletonized Commander-style unit, and the match-grade, skeletonized three-hole trigger is medium length.

Ergonomics and control surfaces are well executed: a checkered front strap and a flat, checkered mainspring housing provide purchase, while a beveled magazine well supports smooth reloads. The pistol wears black, sharply checkered double-diamond grip panels.

Sights are fixed 3-dot, with a dovetailed front and a low-mount dovetailed rear. The frame has no accessory rail. The matte black finish on both slide and frame gives the gun a uniform, duty-style appearance.
