Florida Gun Trader was down because our domain registrar, who I will not name, was experiencing a technical problem.
Domain registrars are the organizations that assign domain names like floridaguntrader.com
to the servers they are hosted on. Sounds pretty simple but it’s actually
an incredibly complicated system.
Domain names expire every year. We pay our registrar to automatically renew
floridaguntrader.com before that expiration happens.
Our registrar was having an internal technical problem with automatic renewals.
This prevented these automatic renewals from updating our domain name information
with the global DNS system and Icann, the internet name authority.
We have filed a report with Icann.
At this time I do not believe that this is an attempt by any person or organization
to hijack or remove FloridaGunTrader.com from the Internet. It seems to be a
glitch that affected us, and others, because our renewal happened at the wrong time.
There still may be some intermittent outages for our users while the new DNS
information propagates throughout the Internet routers around the world. This
usually resolves itself in 12-24 hours.
As always we appreciate all of our users. I regret that this situation was an
inconvenience for you guys. I know some of you might have lost some deals. It
has been an extremely stressful situation for the FGT team and our Registrar.
We are going to take steps to make sure it does not happen again.
Thank ya’ll so much for your support and concern during the whole thing.
Sincerely,
David Bradford
President and Founder of FloridaGunTrader.com
